Meet Dr. Shaku Shanmugam MBBS, FRACGP, a highly skilled General Practitioner with a passion for comprehensive health care. Her areas of expertise include Skin Cancer, Women’s, Men’s & Child Health, Chronic Disease Management, and creating personalized health care plans that cater to each patient's unique needs.
With years of experience under her belt, Dr. Shaku has worked in hospitals across multiple states in Malaysia before settling in Kuala Lumpur as a GP. She then went on to work as a senior medical officer in a 20-bed hospital in outback Queensland for 3.5 years, followed by 6 years at the Edmonton Family Medical Cairns. Finally, she opened her own clinic, Willowglen Medical, in Toowoomba in February 2018.
Dr. Shaku has a wealth of experience working in urban and rural hospitals, as well as maternity and child health clinics in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Australia. In addition to her impressive medical expertise, she is also fluent in a number of languages including Malay, Tamil, Urdu, and Hindi.
Born and educated in Malaysia, Dr. Shaku is a 3rd generation Malaysian with roots from India. Her diverse background and extensive medical experience make her an exceptional GP who can provide a unique and personalized approach to your health care needs.

Dr. Buddi Wijesiri MBBS is a seasoned healthcare expert with a wealth of experience in various medical fields. Starting his journey in Sri Lanka and later in Maryborough, Dr. Buddi gained valuable experience as a General Practitioner. He then moved on to practice Cardiology at the Friendly Society Private Hospital in Bundaberg. Currently, Dr. Buddi is part of the team at the Hevrveybay Hospital, where he specializes in General Medicine and Emergency Medicine. With a keen interest in Mental Health, Chronic Disease Management, Men’s Health, Skin Checks, and Cardiology, Dr. Buddi is committed to providing his patients with the highest level of care possible.
Dr. Lakshmiprabha Murugesan MBBS, MD, who prefers to be called Dr. Usha, is a highly qualified medical professional with a rich and varied experience spanning over three decades. She completed her MBBS in India in 1992, and went on to earn a post-graduate degree as a Doctor in Medicine with a specialization in Infectious Diseases with a component of Immunology and Allergies in 1995. She was a gold medalist and university topper in her MD program, and also submitted a few research papers to the World Health Organization through the MGR Medical University in 1994.
Dr. Usha started her professional career as a GP consultant in a multi-specialty hospital, where she worked from 1995 to 2003. In 1998, she won "The Best Doctor Award" by the State Health Department. After her stint as a GP consultant, she worked as a lecturer in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital in 2003-2004. Additionally, she also served as the Chief Blood Bank officer in the same medical college hospital during this time.
Dr. Usha then moved to Goldcoast University Hospital, where she worked from 2005 to 2010 in all departments as per the rotational roster. She completed an Advanced Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Tasmania from 2010-2011 and a Primary Diploma in Skin Cancer in 2015. She also completed Mental Health training certificates in 2007 and 2019.
Since 2012, Dr. Usha has been working as a GP in various clinics in Queensland. Her special interests lie in all components of being a dedicated family physician. Dr. Usha is fluent in English and Tamil.
Our wonderful Practice Nurse Gillian has over 20 years of nursing experience in hospitals, aged care and general practice, with a preference for practice nursing. Gillian endeavours to provide a warm and caring environment for all our patients while treating them with respect, skill and empathy that is hard to find elsewhere.

Willowglen Medical Toowoomba has been in the forefront of protecting our Patients and Staff from COVID-19. We started telephone screening every patient from February 2020. Our staff were abused at the time and were told that that no way was COVID -19 going travel to Toowoomba.
Our precautions were justified as a patient from the cruise ship Ruby Princess died from the Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID19) died in Toowoomba.
We were practicing social distancing from the start.
